Dance With Me

It was one of those days it was the kind of day, when people seemed to wander outside in the sunlight. It was not quite summer yet, but it was a nice enough day to be outdoors and after a long winter of cold weather, it seemed as if they welcomed the chance. It seemed as if everyone had decided to be there, however, for the young woman that found herself walking through the park, it was quite the different story. She was not here to enjoy the weather.

She was here for a different purpose to find her brother. The same brother that had killed her parents, and left her behind without a second glance. The reasons that he had done this she was not sure and many ideas went through her mind, but the one idea that she preferred was that he must have lost his mind.

The park was a rather small space to be holding as many people as were here. However, small towns were like that. People tended to gather in large numbers in certain places, and things were different she could see the appeal. The walking path lay in front of her, the path seeming to be made of tiny pebbles, that someone had placed upon the dirt to form the trail.

It had an almost quaint quality to it and, if she had not been distracted by other things she might have stopped to enjoy the beauty all around, somewhere in the near distance, the sound of children laughing could be heard mingled with the sound of splashing water. The toys seemed to lay just on the end of the path, with all the usual toys. She remembered coming to such a place as a child. And just like the children on the swings begging her parents for just one more push.

The garden was quite lovely and she found herself stopping to stand in the middle of it, she watched the people as they moved around her. The one that she was looking for seemed to be nowhere to be found sighing this fact bothered her. Twirling pieces of her blonde hair around her fingers, Nekene scanned the area with her blue eyes, shaking her head, she found herself pondering. Where had he gone? She thought. Her mind knew that it had seen him come this way. A fact she had noted because it was normally not his kind of place—he hated crowds. With every moment, her fear begins to grow; in until she was sure she had lost him.

Watching the others around her, she found that she was envious of them. What she would not give for a simplicity of a normal life. The young woman sighed lightly. There really was no time for silent reflection. It was true she had much more important things to do. Moving down the path, she nodded a polite hello to those she passed it seemed that it was rather pointless she would never find him. Sighing the young blonde took a deep breath. It was a promise she had made to never use her powers like this, but she did need to find him. It was not as if it was going to hurt them, nor was the result permanent. In the end-run they would never even know it had happened She dosed her eyes concentrating, she sent her powers outwards towards those within the park. Using the very gift that had made her an outcast from the rest of the world her powers moved out touching each person within the park, as they became frozen in time. The park was now displaced in time. She was allowed to move freely among them. Knowing that her brother was immune to the her powers, meant that he would be the only other person moving She could only hope that would make him easier to locate

She found that she could move easily among the people, and that she could took for her brother. It seemed like a rather perfect plan if you asked her. She turned catching movement out of the corner of her eyes her heart was racing she had found him. She turned slowly to see a young woman in a jogging suit. Tilting her head slightly, she frowned as the woman said, "Dance with me Nekene.' Then she laughed a strange sound that made Nekene jump out of her skin.

Shaking her head Nekene backed away from the woman, as movement behind her caught her eye. She turned around slowly, as an old woman who stood next to her dog spun around her and said, "Dance."

She turned to her left, as a man in a suit came twirling past her, as she narrowed her eyes lightly, He chuckled and said, ‘With."

Back peddling away from him, she knew her brother was behind this He had answered her game with one of his with. He could control the bodies of people However, he could not control her as he did others it appeared that he could even control them within the frozen state she had placed them in. It was possible she had even made it easier for him to do so.

The old man with a cane reached out his grizzled hand, grabbing her arm, as she let out a squeal. He said, "Me."

She stepped away from him almost falling as she found a young man in his 20's catching her, he said, "Nekene." That same strange laughter seemed to come out of his mouth, as the young woman from before.

She tore away from him, as she turned to the left almost stepping over the little boy still clutching his boat, who said, "Dance.”

Moving quickly to her left, she found that the people seemed to be moving faster around her. A teenage girl pivoted pass her as she said, "With.'

Shaking her head, she stumbled trying to find away through the people The tiny little girl with ail the blonde curls bowing lightly to her, as she said, “Me.'

Nekene felt as if she wanted to scream, as she heard a chorus of laughter as it seemed that all the people spoke at the same time. "Nekene." She found her name echoed through the empty park.

They continued to move around her one after another in until there were so many she could no longer count them all. They moved around her. As they pivoted this way and that way. She moved with them trying to avoid being caught within the dance. The people continued to spin around her faster and faster. It seemed to her, that they were now a blur of colors moving around her. In addition, those that he was not controlling were still frozen in the distance. It was likes some kind of creepy daydream' She moved through the chorus of dancing people, as they twirled around her moving her this way of that. It seemed to be an unnatural dance like those of marionettes upon a stage. It seemed stiff as if they were nothing but puppets made of wood. They called out to her in a strange chorus of eerie Voices that called to her to dance with them.

It reminded her of her mother’s music box. It was one of those boxes with the dancing people, the little magnets made the people spin around the dance floor. And the other people on the box stood frozen in place. They had no magnets to move them. She had always thought it was quite lovely, but now she found herself trapped within a strange world not so different from the box. She found herself wondering briefly if she should have liked it so much. Her heart was beating faster, she found herself trying to move through the frozen people, trying to avoid the dancing ones

She sighed as she moved trying to figure out where he was No matter how hard she tried she could not figure it out. Frowning she forced herself to calm down and think. He had to be somewhere close enough to control the puppets as he called them. In addition, be able to see what she was doing She sighed again, as her eyes glanced upwards. Covering her eyes with one hand to keep the sunlight out of them. She looked up. That was it. She knew where he was. Seeing the tower, she remembered her brother and her sneaking to the top of one just like it when they were children. It was several feet from the rose garden, which was located in the center of the park. He would have been able to see everything she had done since entering from there. The more she thought about it, the more she knew she was right. The only thing left was finding a way to get up there without being seen.

However, first she needed to get through the dancing people. Biting down on her lower lip, as she formed a plan. They wanted her to dance with them. So, she would dance with them- Her eyes scanned the dancing people; in until she found the opening she wanted She moved to the man, grabbing his hand as she danced with him.

She begins to switch from partner to partner. She would take one's hand, and dance with it, then move it to another. As she moved through the dancing marionettes this way. Always aware of what she was doing, and moving from the inside of the circle to the outside. Finding herself past all the people, she let out a sigh, having managed to get behind the tower. Now, she could only hope that her brother had not caught her trick.

Tilting her Head, smiling seeing a rope hanging down from the tower. That must be how he had gotten up there it seemed a little too easy, but she could not think about such things having come much too far to quit now. Nodding to herself, she began to climb up the rope. Coming to the top, she slide over the edge, moving towards him trying not to be heard He was here she could see him looking over the edge at the world below. He might even be looking for her among the dancing ones below.

She moved towards him as quietly as she could, but she could hear the sound of her own breathing as if it had taken on a mind of its own. If anyone asked her she would have sworn that the sound of her own heartbeat could be heard all the way in China However, she knew that must not be true as she stopped just behind him. Finally, she would get the answers to her questions She knew she could help him. After all, he had to have lost his mind if he was insane there was hope for him. Alternatively, maybe he was under some sort of mind control. There had to be some reason. He would not have just killed them. He would not. She shook her head, as she walked up behind him and said. "Ok, Darkarai the game is up I win."

She waited for him to spin around and acknowledge that she was there. It was only a matter of seconds, in until he said she had outsmarted him. He turned slowly, as she cried out in surprise. The man standing there was not her brother. He looked like him from a distance. However, she now knew it was not Darkarai. He had the same light blonds hair cut slightly long. He same pale blue eyes. The same height and weight as her brother was however, he was not her brother. He was just another puppet. She blinked as the puppet said, "Did you Nekene? I am not so sure of that. And to think all I wanted was you to dance with me.”

The puppet giggled as Nekene rocked back and forth on her feet. She found her control slip, as she fell to her knees. As she fell her concentration fail. The world outside resumed as if nothing had happened
